KEY MESSAGES

The key message, "COCONUT FARMING IS FACING A LOOMING SOCIAL AND SUPPLY CRISIS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA - THE SECTOR NEEDS RESPONSIBLE REJUVENATION", is a headline statement designed for impact. It is not sensationalist. It is a carefully calibrated summary of the on-the-ground reality, validated by extensive data and the direct experiences of industry stakeholders within and beyond SCP Membership.

We know this message may sound strong, but we have concluded with the support of communication experts in the field of commodities that it strikes the right balance between the scientific findings and the lived experiences of farmers and industry professionals. This realism is essential for mobilizing the collective action needed to address the looming crisis the sector starts to show signs of.

The proposed solution, "THE SECTOR NEEDS RESPONSIBLE REJUVENATION" provides a clear, actionable path forward. By openly and honestly acknowledging the social and supply crisis, we can build the broad-based support from both the industry and smallholder farmers that is essential for investing in and securing a brighter future for the next generation. We invite you to share your comments and perspectives on this key message on page one of the discussion board.

About RESPONSIBLE REJUVENATION:

For the coconut sector, responsible rejuvenation is what sustainability truly means... It goes beyond simply replanting trees; it addresses the economic, social, and environmental issues faced by the sector - all into the Sustainable Coconut Charter. Because the majority of coconut palms are old and unproductive, farmers and less and less passing the baton to the next generation fearing to take over underinvested farms, responsible rejuvenation focuses on replacing senile trees with high-yielding varieties while also improving farmer livelihoods.

This Pulse Report introduced this concept and makes it the flagship rally point for all who work towards solutions about to this sector's challenges - a global industry with a stagnating production since years despite a growing demand which shows the signes of a looming social and supply crisis.

The report maps out the building blocks for the responsible rejuvenation of the coconut sector and what each company can do to support this goal and secure its supply chains. We hope you, the members of SCP who supported in developing it will find it useful to help mobilize further supply chain partners towards Responsible Rejuvenation.
